What is THC-A Flower & What Does it Do?

Simply put, THC-A flower is hemp flower rich in the THC-A cannabinoid. Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid (THC-A) is the precursor to the better-known THC cannabinoid, being a compound to form earlier in hemp plants’ development and that ultimately matures into THC through decarboxylation. The chemical structure of THC-A contains a carboxyl group which distinguishes it from THC. The presence of this carboxyl group also blocks THC-A from interacting with the CB1 receptors of the endocannabinoid system, meaning THC-A doesn’t inherently have psychoactive effects. So, a carboxyl group is all that distinguishes THC-A from THC, but how would one even go about decarboxylating something? It’s simpler than you might think by looking at the word. Hemp products can naturally decarboxylate over time as they’re exposed to light and even simply sitting at room temperature. This process can be expedited with heat from either just smoking the hemp flower or heating it in an oven for use in edibles. The short of it is shown below:
